Monday, September 3rd is Labor Day. There will be no school. In ELA this week, we will be learning words 11 - 15 in Unit 1 of Vocabulary Workshop. Our words for this week are immense, inept, ingenious, instantaneous and irk. In our Interactive Workbooks, we will be working on Subjects and Predicates, verbs and dependent and independent clauses. Homework: Monday: Finish your LINCs worksheet for our vocabulary words. Tuesday: Diagramming sentences for Subjects and Predicates Wednesday: Diagramming sentences for Subjects and Predicates. Thursday: Diagramming sentences for Subject and Predicates Friday: No homework. Enjoy your long weekend.

This week:
Open House on Thursday, August 23, 2018. Come visit your child's teachers and walk through your child's schedule. Join us before for hamburgers and ice cream. In ELA this week, we will continue to work on identifying the parts of speech to improve our reading and writing. We will be identifying complete and simple subjects and predicates, dependent and independent clauses and conjunctions. On Monday, we will continue working on vocabulary workshop. We will be working on the next 5 words in Unit 1. We will be using the LINCs strategy to help us remember our vocabulary. This strategy can be used to learn vocabulary for any class. Please work with your student to help them learn their words. We will have a test on Friday over the first 10 vocabulary words in Unit 1. Homework: Monday: Finish your pictures for the remaining 5 words. Write 2 sentences using 2 of your 10 vocabulary words. Underline the vocabulary words in your sentences. Draw a line between the Subject and Predicate in your sentences. Tuesday: Practice your vocabulary words. Write 2 sentences using another 2 of your 10 vocabulary words. Underline the vocabulary words in your sentences. Identify the simple subject and simple predicate in your sentences by highlighting them in different colors. Wednesday: Practice your vocabulary words. Write 2 sentences using another 2 of your 10 vocabulary words. Underline the vocabulary words in your sentences. Scholastic Reading Inventory testing in ELA on Monday and Tuesday. Student Growth Measures in Science, Social Studies and Connection classes on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. House Sorting during Reach classes. In language arts this week, we will be doing SRI testing on Monday. We will also be creating Facebook worksheets to introduce ourselves, begin discussing types of sentences and working on vocabulary. If you have not already brought in 2 composition workbooks, please bring them in so we can begin working on our interactive workbooks. Homework: Monday: No homework Tuesday: Brainstorm a paragraph describing what elementary school was like. How did it change from kindergarten to 5th grade? Who was your favorite teacher? Who was your best friend? What was your favorite subject? Wednesday: Write your paragraph. Thursday: Reread your paragraph and editing it for any errors or anything you left out.
