Monday - Anime club meets at 4:30 in room 1613 Tuesday - CLIMB - 8th grade House Cup, 7th grade - Remediation/Enrichment, 6th grade - Advisement. 6th and 8th grade have concessions. Wednesday - PBIS Celebration at Sparkles 1st & 2nd periods Fly in Room 1606 at 8am Thursday - Early Release Interested in the Black History Month Program - There will be an interest meeting at 9:15am in the theatre. International Club and Cuisine meeting at 4:15pm in room 1702 Friday - Early Release Fly 8am in the Gym This week in 6th grade ELA, we will continue working on writing simple sentences using the PENS strategy. Students will have a quiz on Wednesday over the definition of a sentence, what every sentence needs, subjects, action verbs, PENS and MARK strategies. Homework this week will depend on where they are in the program. This week in 8th grade ELA, we will be working on our Definition of a Hero Project. Students have been reading and watching videos to determine the meaning of a hero and heroism. Students will be creating either a PowerPoint, SWAY, video or a poster identifying who their hero is and why, what there hero is not and locating a quote that describes their hero. Students will also be writing a business letter to their hero explaining why they are their hero and how they have contributed to their lives. Student projects on due at the beginning of the class Thursday. Students will be presenting their projects to the class on Thursday and Friday. Homework this week will be working on their project at home.

Reality U for 8th grade is on Tuesday, December 10th. 8th grade Band Combined concert @ the KMHS theatre on Tuesday, December 10th at 6:30 pm CLIMB on Wednesday 6th grade has remediation/enrichment, 7th grade House Cup, 8th grade advocacy. 6th and 7th grade Band Combined concert @ KMHS theatre on Wednesday, December 11th at 6:30 pm. 6th and 8th grade have RI testing on Thursday and Friday. Student Council Penny Wars will begin Friday morning. Students will deposit pennies in their homeroom bin. The homeroom that collects the most pennies will win a pajama, hot chocolate, movie celebration on Friday, December 20th. 6th grade Chorus: Christmas at Piedmont on Saturday, December 14th at 3:30 pm. Early Release on Thursday and Friday, December 19 and 20. This week in 6th grade ELA, we will continue working on the PENS sentence writing strategy. We will be practicing using the MARK strategy to check sentences for subjects, verbs, capitalization, punctuation and making sure the sentences make sense. We will also be working on writing sentences with action and linking verbs. Students must master each segment of the strategy before they move to the next level. Students will also be working on a USA Test Prep assignment on Friday. Homework this week will be working on assigned worksheet based on their performance on each segment of the strategy. This week in 8th grade ELA, we will be working on our Definition of a Hero Project. Students will be learning about the negation definition strategy. They will be selecting a Hero from either the real world, in literature or from their lives. They will create a project explaining their Hero, what they contribute to society and defining their Hero using the negation strategy. They will also be writing a letter to their Hero explaining why they chose them as their Hero. 8th grade students will be participating in the RealityU program on Tuesday. Welcome back!
In 6th grade ELA this week, we will begin learning the PENS strategy to learn to write a variety of sentences. We will be going to the media center to return our book and checkout new books. We will also learn how to log into Biblionasium to log the minutes we read. Don't forget to log your minutes that you read in your classes! Homework this week: Monday - write 3 simple sentences about what you did after school; Tuesday - write 3 simple sentences about something you watched after school; Wednesday - read for 20 minutes, log you minutes on Biblionasium and write 3 sentences about what you read; Thursday - read for 20 minutes, log you minutes on Biblionasium and write 3 sentences about what you read; Friday - No homework. In 8th grade ELA, we will be learning about the Greek and Latin Roots -sub-, marine, merge, -tract, de-, re-, scribe, mit. We will be working on the reading strategy of locating the main idea, details and sequence of event to help improve our comprehension of nonfiction passages. We will also be preparing for our Hero Definition project. We will be learning the TP-CASTT strategy to help us understand poetry and the negation strategy when defining concepts. On Friday, we will take a quiz over our Greek and Latin Roots. Homework: Monday - Prometheus; Tuesday - The Diagnosis; Wednesday - The World in a Pond and finish the TP-CASTT worksheet for the poem, "The Man"; Thursday - The Cliff Dwellers; Friday - No homework. |
