This week is an exciting week.
Halloween is on Tuesday! Reminder: NO costumes are allowed. If you bring candy to school, remember that you have to have your teacher's permission to eat it in class. Friday, November 3rd will our vocabulary quiz over Unit 3 words #1-10. November 6th is the Science field trip to Ruby Falls! November 7th is a teacher workday, so there will be no school. Book Report #3 is due on November 15th. Remember that you may do any book report from the choice board except for the one you have already completed. In language arts this week, we will be working on adjectives and adverbs: bad or badly, good or well, and real or really. On Tuesday, we will be working on Halloween Context Clues. In our Springboard workbook, we will be listening to the story "Flipped" and locating text evidence to support our answers. We will be looking at characterization and dialogue. On Friday, we will be going to the computer lab to work on our language arts skills using the Moby Max program. This week in language arts, we are finishing our story, "Superpowers," and starting on the story "Flipped." We will be working on writing summaries, locating text evidence to support our answers, making inferences, and cause and effect relationships in a story. In vocabulary workshop, we will be working on Unit 3 words 1 - 5. These words are barrage, bigot, designate, diversity and enigma. Students who study each night and their parents send in a note will receive PBIS points. Our vocabulary test will be next Friday, November 3rd over words 1-10 in Unit 3.

Don't forget this Thursday is early release. Students will be dismissed at 1:30 pm. You should be receiving an invitation from your child's conference teacher regarding signing up for conferences the week of October 16 - 20. Students will have early dismissal that week. This week we will be previewing and reading "Superpowers" and "He said, She said: Characterization" in our Springboard workbook. Students will be identifying the incident, the response and the reflection according to the authors as well as, making inferences about characters and identifying word connotation. Students will also be locating commas being used in a series and pronouns. Students will be working on the next 10 words in Vocabulary Workshop Unit 2. We will take our unit 2 vocabulary test next Friday (October 20, 2017) over words 11 - 20. Words the students will be learning this week are groundless, hypocrite, incomprehensible, manipulate and maximum. Students will be using either the LINCs table or flashcards to study their words. Remember, if you see your child studying his or her words at night, he or she can earn PBIS points if you send in a note stating that you saw them studying. Homework this week will be on adjectives. Our second book report will be due on October 16, 2017. Remember if you have not returned your permission slip for the science fieldtrip to return it as soon as possible. Next Thursday, October 12th will be an early release day. Conference week is October 16th - October 20th. Parents will receive a link to register for your conference from your conference teacher. Students will be dismissed at 1:30pm during conference week. In language arts this week, we will be finishing up "The Circuit". We will finish our changes worksheet and rewrite the ending of "The Circuit". We will then begin reading "Superpowers" and "Flipped." We will be studying words 6 - 10 in Vocabulary Workshop unit 2. We will have our test over these 5 words on Friday. The words are constrained, contemporary, depict, disinterested and encompass.
