Welcome Back! I hope everyone had a great break.
On Thursday at 6:30 in the theater will be the Black History Program being presented by students at Pine Mountain Middle School. We would love to see everyone there! In Reading this week, we will continue reading Anne Frank. Students will be rereading the play and answering comprehension questions. If they did not finish their questions in class, they took them home for homework. Besides answering the questions, they need to underline what in the play made them believe that was the answer. We will also be working on vocabulary, parts of a paragraph, elements of drama and understanding direction words. Homework this week: Monday - Finish questions 1-18 from the play Anne Frank and the fiction article, Firebird. Tuesday: Prince Ricky Wednesday: The Old Woman and the Doctor Thursday: Black History Night at PMMS 7th grade ELA: We will be working on writing an argumentative essay. We will be identifying and writing hooks, claims, supporting our claims with evidence and elaborating on our evidence. Homework this week: Monday - Write your hook for homework. Tuesday - Write your introductory paragraph. Read it to your parents or a sibling and ask if it makes sense to them. Wednesday: Finish your 1st paragraph. Read it to your parents and have them initial that they heard it. Thursday: Black History Night at PMMs 8th grade ELA: We will be editing and presenting our informational/research papers on Wednesday. Some students have not finished their first draft. Students will be creating a visual to go with their paper on Tuesday in class. On Thursday and Friday, we will begin learning about and reading the "Diary of Anne Frank." Homework: Monday - Finish your final copy of your paper.

This week in reading, we will be starting our new story, "The Diary of Anne Frank." We will be reading an excerpt from the play. We will be practicing our fluency. Homework: Tuesday: Virtual Learning, Wednesday: Bearskin, Thursday: Puss in Boots, and Friday: Felicia and the Carnations. 7th grade ELA will continue working on persuasive writing. We will finish writing our expository police reports and our persuasive opening statements. We will have a test on Thursday over the persuasive vocabulary. We will start learning about persuasive techniques. Homework this week: finish your police reports and opening statements if you do not have them turned in by the end of class on Tuesday. 8th grade ELA will be researching a person, or group that has had an impact on society. They will be researching to find information about their early life, what impacted them, and what impact they have had on others, a culture or a nation. They will be using their research to write a 5 paragraph essay. Students will be taking a test over "Mother to Son" and "What's your life's blueprint?" on Thursday. They received a study guide on Thursday. Homework this week, if you have not turned in your compare/contrast essay from last week, have it turned in by Tuesday. |
