Picture Day is September 5, 2019. Tuesday: Fire drill in the afternoon. Wednesday: Early Release - Students will be dismissed at 1:30pm 8am FLY in Mrs. Taylor's Room Friday: End of the 4 1/2 grading period. 8am FLY in the GYM. Magnet School Presentation for 8th graders 6th grade ELA this week will review their space vocabulary words (inertia, gravity, orbit, terrestrial planets, gas giants). Students will have a quiz on Friday over the science words. We will continue reading, Windcatcher by Avi. Students will write their Summer Reading Projects. Their reading projects will be due on Tuesday, August 3, 2019. Homework: Students will need to write 3 summary sentences nightly about what we read each day. They have a brainstorming slide to help them construct their sentences. Students should be studying their science vocabulary words nightly. Vocabulary Quizlet practice: quizlet.com/419874038/science-vocabulary-set-1-flash-cards/ 8th grade ELA this week will be working on their Greek and Latin affixes and roots. Students will have their quiz on Friday. Students will be comparing and contrasting the hero's journey to the elements of literature plot diagram. Students will also be identifying mood and tone in movie trailers and to the poem, "Ithica." Student's book report #1 will be due September 16, 2019. Homework: Students will have a reading worksheet to complete Tuesday to Thursday night. . 6th grade ELA will continue to work on using the LINCs strategy to learn grade level vocabulary. They will also be working on completing their get to know you Facebook page. We will also be working on Summer Reading Projects in class.
8th grade ELA will continue working on Greek and Latin Root words this week and will be working on their personal narrative 3 paragraph essay. We will also be working on Summer Reading Projects in class. The last day to turn in their projects is August 16, 2019. Happy Monday. I hope everyone had a great weekend.
Important information: -Please return the 4 forms you were given to complete - 1) clinic card, 2) registration form, 3) student conduct forms, 4) performing arts. -6th grade will be handing out lockers tomorrow morning to students who have returned all of their forms. If you need another question, please let your child's homeroom teacher know. -Don't forget that our first Pine Mountain Bash will be on Friday, August 9th. Please check the website for details and return the permission form with your child. -Students will be attending CLIMB classes all week. They will be bringing home a house cup t-shirt form. 6th grade ELA We will be using the LINCs strategy to learn 6th grade vocabulary. Today, we started on our first 5 words - apparel, besiege, compress, denounce, and dispatch. We will finish our LINCs strategy worksheet tomorrow in class. We will also be working on completing our Facebook page this week. 8th grade ELA We will be working on Greek and Latin Roots - pre-, venire, con- and -dict. We will be using highlighting to identify the important information related to those affixes. We will also be working on improving out descriptive writing. It was great getting see all of the smiling 1st day of school faces today! I am looking forward to teaching your children this year.
Important reminders - If you have not returned your child's forms (clinic card, registration, Performing Arts and Code of Conduct forms) yet, please be sure to return them by Monday, so they can be issued a locker. These forms are very important. Also, please try to get your child's ELA supplies this weekend because we will start using them on Monday. They will need 2 composition workbooks, pens/pencils, colored pencils and loose leaf notebook paper. 6th grade ELA Today, we worked on telling something about ourselves and creating a name place card. In 1st period, we did not get to the place cards, so tonight's homework will be for tomorrow night unless they complete the assignment at home. In ELA today, we talked about CLIMB cash and appropriate behavior for walking in the hallways. We also played a JEOPARDY game to become familiar with some of the names and faces of the people in our building. Tomorrow, we will be working on creating an ELA fake Facebook page to help us become more familiar with out students and so that students will become more familiar with each other. 8th grade ELA Today, we worked on creating Word Projects. If students did not finish them in class they are homework. Today, we also reviewed appropriate behavior for walking in the hallway. Students who exhibited appropriate behavior received "CLIMB Cash" that they will need to be responsible for to use at the PBIS/CLIMB school store and/or in the teacher stores. |
