Monday - Pink Out - Wear pink. Tuesday - Red Ribbon - Wear a red shirt. Wednesday - Hat Day - Wear a hat - for $1. Thursday - Twin day - Dress like a friend. Friday - Costume Day - Wear a costume for $1. Remember faces cannot be painted and masks are not permitted. Costumes will not be allowed on Monday, October 31. In reading this week, we will be going to the computer lab to work on our comprehension using Read Works Digital. We will also be previewing an except for "The Outsiders." We will be working on vocabulary, elements of literature and reading for fluency. Homework this week: Monday - Livestock Reduction, Tuesday - Salt of the Earth, Wednesday - Claiming the South Pole for Mankind, Thursday - Braces. Friday's comprehension check will be on Microbursts. 7th grade language arts will be reading "The Black Cat" by Edgar Allan Poe. We will be working on suspense, the elements of literature and mood/tone. We will be writing creatively incorporating suspense and mood/tone in our writing. We will also be practicing varying our sentence types. 8th grade language arts will be reading "The Tell Tale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe. We will be working on symbolism, elements of literature, mood/tone and character analysis. We will be trying to determine if the narrator was sane or insane and using evidence to back up our conclusion.

7th grade ELA study your vocabulary and reading comprehension worksheets for your test tomorrow over Lance Armstrong. 8th grade ELA was testing today. We will complete our study guides tomorrow and have our test on Friday over "Raymond's Run." Reading Homework:
Tuesday: Julius Caesar, Kidnapped Wednesday: That Phone in Your Pocket Thursday: Livestock Reduction 7th Grade ELA homework: Recognizing Base Words wkst pg. 99, Quotations pg. 93. They will need to use their on-line book to locate their quotation in the stories. Lance Armstrong test will be on Thursday. 8th grade ELA homework: Compound Words pg. 33 and Avoiding Sentence Fragments pg. 36. Raymond's Run Test will be on Friday. Don't forget that this week is conference week and students will be dismissed at 2:15 all week. If you have not signed up for a conference on sign up genius, you should check with your child's teacher and sign up.
In reading this week, we will be doing a close read and begin preparing to read an excerpt from The Outsiders. Homework for Monday: Louisiana Purchase In 7th grade language arts, we have finished reading our articles about Lance Armstrong. We will be answering comprehension questions and preparing to take our test on Thursday. We will begin reading the story "Monster's on Main Street." We will be focusing on the elements of literature by completing a plot diagram. In 8th grade language arts, we will finish reading our story "Raymond's Run" and will take our test on Thursday. We will be working on comprehension questions. We will begin reading the short story "The Elevator." We will be focusing on the elements of literature. Students will be creating an ending for the story "The Elevator." We are all preparing for parent/teacher conference next week. Don't forget that students will be dismissed at 2:15 all week. If you haven't signed up for a conference yet, you should have received an invitation in your email from your child's conferencing teacher. In reading this week, we are continuing to work with our two poems "If I was in Charge of the World" and "We Real Cool". Homework for this week: Wednesday - Pirates of the South China Sea, Thursday - The Beginning of Fountain Drinks. Friday, students will read about the Louisiana Purchase for our comprehension check. 7th grade language arts, we will continue to read about Lance Armstrong and his struggle to overcome cancer and his racing career. 8th grade language arts, we will continue to read "Raymond's Run". We will be making inferences, comparing and contrasting and reading for information. Homework this week: What road-trip would you take if you suddenly could? Brainstorm your ideas. You will need to brainstorm 5 different places. They can be anywhere in the world. Choose 3 of your favorite places and write a paragraph about each one. Tell us where you want to go, why you want to go there, and describe three things you would do while you were there. All three paragraphs are due on Friday. Welcome back! In reading this week, we will be reading poetry. We will be working on writing IVF topic sentences, using commas, writing masterpiece sentences and working with vocabulary. We will also be working on comprehension using the Read Works Digital site. Homework on Monday will be Handheld Calculators. In 7th grade language arts, our theme will be overcoming adversity. We will be working on cause and effect with the poem "Casey at Bat" and the biography of Babe Ruth. We will be reading articles about Jackie Robinson and Lance Armstrong. On Friday, we will be going to the media center to learn about MLA citation. In 8th grade language arts, we will be finishing our opinion paragraphs about cloning. Our theme will also be overcoming adversity. We will be reading the story "Raymond's Run." |
