In reading this week, we will be going to the computer lab on Monday and Wednesday to work in the Language! Live reading program. Students will be working at their own pace to improve their fluency, spelling, and vocabulary. In our workbook, we will be working on identifying dialogue, reading for a purpose and answering prompts. Homework will be: Tuesday - The Word Wednesday - United States Spy Organizations 7th grade language arts will be reading the "Christmas Carol." We will also be working on writing complex sentences. Students will be working on identifying themes and symbols this week. Homework: Tuesday: Simple and Compound sentences pg. 151, Wednesday: Simple and Compound Sentences pg. 152 part A, Thursday: Simple and Compound Sentences pg. 152 part B, 8th grade language arts will continue reading folktales and a nonfiction article to learn about ageism and respecting out elders. We will be reading to identify themes and symbols in our stories. Parents, students did not finish correcting their reading assignments from class on Thursday. I sent home both articles and the questions as well as, their first responses to the questions. If they are unable to find their work, they can access it from my blog by going to readworksdigital.com and reading and answer the questions for "Attack of the Nerves" and "It Feels Good to Laugh." Thank you for your help! This week in reading, we will be going to the computer lab to work on the Language! Live reading program on Monday and Wednesday. Students will be working independently to improve their reading fluency, vocabulary, spelling and comprehension. We will also be working on writing Masterpiece Sentences by painting our subjects (using adjectives), identifying subjects and predicates, punctuating dialogue and reading for a purpose. Homework: Monday: Football for Kids, Tuesday: Men on Mars?, Wednesday: The Philippines, and Thursday: United States Spy Agencies. 7th grade language arts, Students will be correcting their short stories they wrote last week on Monday. The remainder of the week, we will be reading the play "The Christmas Carol." Students will be identifying the elements of drama, and reading for fluency. This week, we will be focusing on writing compound sentences and using adjectives in our sentences. Homework will focus on identifying fragments and run-ons. : Monday: Fragments and Run-Ons pg. 28 # 6-13, Tusday: Fragments and Run-Ons pg. 29 A, Wednesday: Fragments and Run-Ons pg. 29 B, Thursday: Fragments and Run-0ns pg. 30 A. 8th grade language arts, will be correcting their 5 paragraph argument essay they wrote last week. The remainder of the week, we will be reading several folktales, "The Old Grandfather and his Young Grandson," "The Wise Old Woman" and the article "Aging Population." Students will be working on identify the themes and symbols. After reading the stories, student will write an opinion essay explaining why a society should value its elders. Homework will focus on Fragments and run-ons.
