Please consider sending in canned good for the Thanks for Giving Drive not only to help families that are in need, but also to win a Chic-fil-a lunch and 50 points for your house cup! 6th Grade CLIMB Celebration will be on Thursday during 6th and 7th periods. Students will be watching a movie, so be sure to turn in your 20 Climb Cash Dollars and your signed permission slips. 7th and 8th grade will have their celebration on Friday. This week in 6th grade ELA we will be working on brainstorming, prewriting, writing a rough draft and writing an introduction for your personal narrative. For homework for this week: Monday - Main Idea, Tuesday - Sequencing, Wednesday - Clauses, Thursday - The Butterfly. Any work not completed during class will be assigned as homework that night. This week in 8th grade ELA, we will continue reading the Scholastic Play, The Odyssey. Students will be completing a Cloze activity summary for Acts 1 -7 as well as, matching the events in the play to the Hero's Journey Archetype. For reading this week, we will be focusing on visualizing and identifying imagery in writing. For homework: Forests of Clouds and Mists, Tuesday - Students hit the Airways, Wednesday - Not Quite the Same, Thursday - A Plane in the Hudson River, Friday - The World's Biggest Wave (completed in class for a formative grade.)

Next week is conference week. If you have not returned your child's conference form, please return it this week.
Early Release will be on Thursday, October 10th. In 6th grade ELA this week, we will continue to work on typing book reports and editing them. Students will also create illustrations for 3 scenes from their book. Students will also be completing a diagnostic assessment on Quill to assess their strengths and weaknesses. Students will be reading a short personal narrative. Homework for his week: Monday - Subject/Verb Agreement; Tuesday - Word Building; Wednesday - Reading for Main Idea; Thursday - Sequencing Events; Friday - no homework. In 8th grade ELA this week, students will be working with the Greek and Latin roots - re-, ply, cedere, pro- and -ject. Our reading strategy for this week will be making connections. As students complete their reading homework, they need to practice making connections to help improve their comprehension. We will also continue to read the play the "Odyssey." Students will be identifying the events in the play that correlate with the Hero's journey. Homework this week - Monday - Up to the Mountaintop; Tuesday - Dirty Job? Oh, Yeah!; Wednesday - A letter from Antioch; Thursday - The Elephant and the Hummingbird; Friday - No homework. |
