It's hard to believe that Spring Break is next week!
Don't forget that the next PBIS celebration will be on Friday during 3rd period. Don't forget that Milestone testing begins the week we return from Spring Break. 6th grade will be testing in ELA and Math. This week in ELA, we will be writing our embedded assessment for Unit 3. Students will be writing argumentative letters trying to convince their parents to allow them to bring a friend on their family spring break vacation. Students will be writing a hook, connecting sentence, claim (thesis statement), 2 supporting paragraphs explaining their reasons and a concluding paragraph. Please ask your child to share their letters with you. No book report for the month of April. However, there will be one due on May 15th (our last one!). Homework this week: Monday: write your hook Tuesday: finish your graphic organizer Wednesday: add two complex sentences to your essay Thursday: add one compound sentence to your essay; final copy is due tomorrow. Friday: Enjoy your break! Reminders:
Early Release on Wednesday, March 14, 2018. End of the grading period is on Wednesday, March 14, 2018. If you have missing assignments, you need to make them up and turn them into your teachers. Book Report #7 will be due on Wednesday, March 15, 2018. Students can choose to complete the fiction book report or choose another book report format they have not previously completed. Vocabulary Workshop Unit 6B quiz will be on Friday, March 23, 2018. This week in language arts, we will continue working on identifying claims, evidence and reasons in our articles on Dodgeball and Social Networking. We will also be discussing formal language. We are working on our Unit 6 words #11 - 20 in vocabulary workshop. Please use the links on the resources page to practice at home. Homework: Monday - Finish your flashcards or vocabulary worksheets using the LINCs strategy. Be sure to include a reminding word, picture and story. Tuesday - Finish your book report. It can be typed or handwritten. Wednesday - Rewrite the paragraph using formal language. Thursday - Fill out a pro/con chart with reasons for the following prompt. This will be their embedded assessment #1 for Unit 3. Students will participate in peer evaluations. Students will be practicing writing using a formal tone of voice. |
