If your child brought home the possible retention form on Friday, please sign and return to their homeroom teacher. Anime Club meets at 4:30 pm in Mrs. Wilbur's Room 1613 on Mondays. On Tuesday at 6:30 pm in the theatre will be the 7th grade Orchestra Concert. Climb for this week will be Advocacy for 6th grade and House Cup for 8th grade on Wednesday. Progress Reports will be posted to ParentVue on Wednesday. Thursday will the Thanksgiving Lunch. Come and eat with your student! Thursday at 6:30 pm in the theatre will be the 8th grade Orchestra Concert. Thursday at 4:15 pm will be the Internal Culture and Cuisine Club in room 1712. On Friday Pebblebrook/Magnet school applications are due to Mrs. Hines. In 6th grade this week, we will be working on writing an explanatory paragraph by using an exemplar and a graphic organizer. Students will be using technology to publish their final copy of their explanatory paragraph. On Monday, we will be going to the Media Center to checkout a book and to learn about using Biblionasium to document our reading. Homework for this week will be to read for 20 minutes nightly and to document your minutes on Biblionasium. On Friday, students will be introduced to USA TestPrep and how to complete activities over the break. Students are encouraged to complete the Thanksgiving Challenge to participate in the reward! In 8th grade, we will be working on writing a Superhero narrative from Tuesday to Thursday. Students will be using graphic organizers to describe their character, and to plan their story using the Hero's Archetype plot diagram. On Friday, students will be writing their final copy of their story. Students will be working on Greek and Latin affixes on Monday. For reading homework this week, we will be working on identifying the main idea and details in informational reading. Students will also practice writing summaries on what they read.

Wednesday will be a remediation and enrichment day for our CLIMB day activity.
Thursday @ 6:30 pm in the theatre will be the 6th grade Fall Orchestra Concert. November 20th progress reports will be visible. In 6th grade ELA this week, students who have not completed their personal narratives will need to complete them. We will be examining internal and external conflict and how it affects characters. Students will be watching video clips from the movie UP to identify and describe how forces of conflict affect characters and their actions. Homework for this week: Monday - come up with 2 examples of conflict; Tuesday - come up with 2 more examples of conflict to stump your classmates. Wednesday and Thursday - Internal and external conflict worksheets. In 8th grade, we will finish up the play, "The Odyssey." Students will be plotting how the elements of literature match up with the Hero's Journey Archetype. Students will have their summative assessment on Tuesday and Wednesday. Students will begin working on preparing to write their Superhero's Journey by using the Hero's Journey Archetype and a graphic organizer to describe their character, the introductory paragraph and place their events on a timeline to help keep them focused. Final story will be due next Friday, November the 22. Homework this week: Monday - The Great Bigfoot Haox, Tuesday - Ephesus, Wednesday - Taking Action, Thursday - The Smilodon and the Tiger, Friday - Ancient Greek PE (completed in class for a grade). |
