Activity: Review: Remember that subjects are nouns or pronouns that tell us who or what the sentence is about. The complete subject are all the words that are associated with the subject up to the predicate part of the sentence. The main subject is the noun or nouns the sentence is about. Predicates are verbs that tell us what the subject of the sentence did. The complete predicate are all the words that tell what, when and how the subject did the action. The main predicate is the actual verb in the complete predicate phrase. Adjectives are descriptive words that tell us which one, what kind or how many when describing nouns. Helping verbs come between the main verb and the subject. There are 23 helping verbs. Helping verbs help the main verb by adding information about time, and setting the mood or tone. Adverbs are descriptive words that tell how, when, where or to what extent when describing verbs, adjectives or other adverbs. Example: The little girl might have run quickly up the hill. The complete subject is: the little girl The main subject is: girl (the noun) The complete predicate is: might have run up the hill The verb phrase is: might have run The main predicate is: run (the verb) The helping verbs are: might and have. The adjectives in this sentence are the and little. The is an article that tells us which girl. The adverb is: quickly (it tells how she ran up the hill).
